How to use your Learning Guide
Your Learning Guide is intended to facilitate your participation and learning both during the course and after your finish the
facilitated three day session.
During the Facilitated Session:
During the session you might want to consider having two monitors available. On the one monitor you can view the
WebEx presentation and on the other you can have your Learning Guide open to quickly access Lab Activities, review
previously delivered slides while working with hands-on activities, or use online links to quickly download videos or other
resources.
You will notice that your Learning Guide has a “home icon” (see image below) on the top of each page. Clicking on the
icon will return you to the Table of Contents so you can easily navigate to specific sections of your Guide.

After the Facilitated Session:
After you have completed the facilitated three-day session, you may continue to use your Learning Guide to review
pertinent materials while on the job. Optionally, you may decide to watch a video to refresh your memory regarding
specific processes. Finally, you may want to simply remind yourself of resources available to you for performing
necessary tasks.

Getting Ready: What to Do Before the Course
You will be participating in this course using a WebEx connection so it can be taken from your office or home location
so it can be taken from your office or home location; just make sure you have a good Internet network connection and
phone connection. There are steps, however, that you need to complete to ensure an optimal experience. These
include: (1) ensuring you have good computer and phone connections; (2) making sure that you have the proper
equipment; and (3) downloading all course materials.
Ensuring Your Computer and Phone Connections:
Please connect on the Phone Conference and WebEx, at least 15 minutes before the start time, to ensure proper
connections before the course begins.
Telephone Number for the phone conference:
1-414-214-4100
Internet Browser Address for the WebEx website:
Jci.Webex.Com (Note that there is no www or http:// in front of jci.webex.com)
Look for the Class called “10236: CCT Class”
Select Join, and then enter your name, email and your WebEx Password
Note: You will receive an email from your instructor about a week before the class with the webex and
 telephone conference passwords.

Note: If Join is not immediately available, wait a few minutes, then refresh the web page and look for Join
again.
Meeting the Computer Requirements:
Your computer must have current release of CCT which is Version 10.1 or greater installed. Your CCT Version
number can be found by selecting CCT’s Help menu and then select Tool About.
Remember, as part of the class you will need an FEC or FAC, a VMA, a BTCVT and a Netsensor is recommended.
That was a prerequisite you also needed in the precourse which you have already completed.
Downloading Course Materials:
Prior to the start of the course go to the BE Class Support Center at:
https://my.jci.com/sites/BESalesOpsLearn/Pages/Homepage.aspx Scroll down and navigate to the C-10236 link
Download the Course Learner Guide, the CAFs for the course and the videos. (Basically, everything under that C- 10236
directory)
You probably want to store these on the hard drive in a directory since you may want to refer to them in the future, so
in your my documents directory (or another place you have chosen) make a directory called 10236 and store all
these downloads there)
Remember that the class will start at 8:00 AM Central time and conclude at 5:00 PM Central time each
day [Make sure you recalculate the start time for “your” local time zone.]

CCT Basics: Online Learning Summary
 (Key points)
As you may recall from “Introduction to the Controller Configuration Tool”:
 There is a family of Metasys® Equipment Controllers that operate with
Network Automation Engines (NAEs).
 The Programming Tool is software used with the programmable MS/TP or
N2 controllers which has three operating modes.
 By using Show Involvement you can associate outputs with the modules
controlling them.
 You can identify where Bluetooth® is or can be
used, define the port and set up serial linkage
to a Bluetooth® device.

When downloading a controller as an N2 replacement device, there are
additional considerations and the steps are slightly different.
 You must connect directly to the SA port of a compatible controller via the
BTCVT (other connection types can not be used).
 The CAF file must be properly configured for N2
compatibility.
 Boot and Main code must be loaded first.
 Select the option to Switch Communication
Mode before application code can be
downloaded.

 If you are downloading N2 compatible controllers, you must use the SA bus. In
addition, with the Load Wizard, the Main code initially downloads as MS/TP
(Wired Field Bus), but switches to N2 (N2 Slave Field Bus) when you select
the Switch Communication Mode check box on the Load Summary screen.
 If the communication protocol in the controller does not match the protocol
that is used in the application, you must switch communication modes before
you download an application.
 When you upgrade field controllers with I/O Module devices on the SA Bus,
you may need to upgrade certain devices to the latest release before you
download the application. If this workflow is required, an alert appears that
indicates which device requires an upgrade.
 For some devices, regardless of the download code order you choose, a
message appears prompting you to install the Boot code before applying the
Main code. The upgrade process does not proceed unless you perform this
action.

Keep in mind the following when downloading a device:
 If you are downloading devices over the Sensor/Actuator (SA) Bus, first
download the individual device to which you are connected and then
download the remaining devices.
 If you need to load Main code into an I/O Module device on the SA Bus, it is
one to two minutes (30%) faster per I/O Module devices if you are directly
connected to the SA Bus with a Bluetooth® connection. The typical download
time is 3-1/2 minutes for an SA Bus download and nearly 5 minutes for an FC
Bus connection.

controller Main and Boot code match the tool versions but the Radio code version does not match.
The tool detects the versions of the Boot, Main, and Radio code versions in the field controller if you
attempt to download an application. If the Boot or Main code version in the controller does not match
the software version, the tool selects the Boot or Main check box. The Radio code is downloaded with
the Main code. However, if the Boot and Main code versions in the tool match the code in the field
controller but the Radio code version does not, the tool does not automatically select the Boot code
and Main code check boxes. If the Main code check box is not selected, the Radio code is not
downloaded.
Keep in mind the following when downloading a device:
 When downloading a ZFR Wireless Field Bus Coordinator, follow the
procedure in this section; however, you do not need to open an application
before discovering the coordinator.
 When downloading ZFR Wireless Field Bus Routers, refer to the ZFR
Wireless Field Bus Router product documentation for guidelines.
 If a ZFR1810 Coordinator has Main code version earlier than Release 5.0, it
should be upgraded.

Requirements
1. Laptop computer with CCT software
2. Wireless Commissioning Converter (BTCVT)
3. An FC bus with MS/TP controllers connected to it. If you have the FEC test panel, configure it so you can see all of the
controllers on the FC bus. If not, connect as many controllers together on an FC bus so you can work with as many as
possible. Please verify that each controller is set to a different device address.
Downloading a controller takes a program from the computer you are working on and loads it into a controller. The
program is stored in the controller’s flash memory.

How do I do it? Helpful Hints and Notes:
1. Ensure that your computer is Bluetooth® ready from the
earlier lab.
2. Double-click the CCT icon on your desktop.
3. Connect the BTCVT to an available jack on a controller
in the network.
4. Open the program you wish to download from the CCT
main screen by selecting File > Open.
5. If the file requires an upgrade when it is opened, accept
the upgrade and click File > Save.
6. Confirm the address of the controller by clicking Define
Hardware. Click the Network Settings tab.
If you are not sure, refer to the Bluetooth® wireless lab, or
consult LIT-12011038.
 This is the CCT icon
For our lab, connect to the SA/FC bus jack on the face of
the IOM2710-0 controller.
If the controller is not operational, consult the Controller
Information lab, and find and flip the SA/FC switch to FC.
For this lab, use the program labeled Fan Coil.caf that you
downloaded prior to the beginning of the class.
CCT version changes require controller file upgrades. If
you are upgrading from 10.0 or 10.1 to 10.2 upgrade the
file, do not switch the revision level to the older revision.
The device address must match the switch settings on the
FEC controller.

The Upgrade Multiple Controllers trunk utility allows youto
upgrade .caf files from multiple devices on the same trunk.
You can access this utility from the Tools menu by selecting
Trunk Utilities > Upgrade Multiple Controllers. This menu
option is only available when a .caf file is not open.
It is not recommended to use Ethernet pass-through connection for upgrading
multiple controllers due to potential communications loss during the process.
It is recommended that you upgrade one device first, before upgrading an entire
trunk.

Activity #1: Downloading and Uploading Multiple Controllers with CCT
Requirements
• Laptop computer with CCT software.
• Wireless Commissioning Converter (BTCVT).
• An FC bus with MS/TP controllers connected to it. If you have the FEC test panel, configure it so you can see all of
the controllers on the FC bus. If not, connect as many controllers together on an FC bus so you can work with as
many as possible. Please verify that each controller is set to a different device address.
Estimated Time
This exercise takes about 60 minutes to complete.
 Download Multiple Controllers and Attributes Using the Same .caf File
How do I do it? Helpful Hints and Notes:
1. Ensure that your computer is Bluetooth® ready.
2. Double-click the CCT icon on your desktop.
3. Connect the BTCVT to an available jack on a controller
in the network.
If unsure, refer to the Bluetooth® Wireless lab, or consult
LIT-12011038.

7. Wait while the connection is made and then click the
Discovery button.

8. After discovery is complete, clear the controllers you do
not want to update.

9. Type in the instance number to download to the device
and change its name, if needed. In this case, use an
instance of 5005 and device name as fan coil.
For our class, use Fan Coil.caf.
The pre-built fan coil file was downloaded from the class
support site

You should only select a controller or controllers that can
handle the file you have opened, that is, FEC controllers
that will be serving a fan coil system.
