"Sabe-se que a língua inglesa é falada e adquirida como língua materna por mais de 300 milhões de pessoas , a 
maioria delas residentes em países como Estados Unidos da América, Canadá, Ilhas Britânicas, Nova Zelândia, na 
região do Caribe e África do Sul. Contudo, lembremo-nos de que a língua inglesa não é o único idioma falado nesses 
locais: a província de Quebec, no Canadá, utiliza a língua francesa como meio de comunicação; a maioria dos sul-
africanos é fluente no idioma Afrikaans ou em línguas de origem Bantu ; finalmente, muitos irlandeses e gauleses
