Sara´s school does not adopt an EFL textbook. From August to October, the school is organizing a project to discuss environmental issues. Sara was required to prepare some materials to teach EFL to second-year high school students in which she addressed text genres. If you were Sara: a) Which text genres would you select? b) How would you work with it in your classroom? c) Justify your answer, please. 3 English is everywhere. It’s possible to say that students at high school level weren’t ever exposed to the English language at least once in their lives: During TV show programs, listening to music, or even accessing the internet. The list goes on and, therefore, the need to understand and reach at least a reasonable operational level of proficiency not only to equip them with linguistic tools to understand the language in basic contexts but also to extend their points of view, making them acquire and develop critical thinking skills about what happens in their surroundings. In accordance with what was proposed, I would rather work with articles - such as press articles, blog posts, and magazine ones - leaflets and reviews. These genres would be considered the most appropriate ones to approach and promote a discussion, promoting an exchange of point of views, tackling environmental issues during high school or other subjects that the teacher believes it would suit to the aim of engaging students while promoting language learning. It would be also recommendable to insert different textual genres that are managed daily, such as music, lyrics, comic books, e-mails, written and audiovisual advertisements, so the students perceive the usage of the language in day-to-day situations, giving them the necessary tools to recognize, and at least gist the main objectives of this text genre. 4 REFERENCES https://brasilescola.uol.com.br/redacao/conceito-generos-textuais.htm https://novaescola.org.br/conteudo/338/emilia-ferreiro-estudiosa-que-revolucionou-alfabetiza cao http://isacolli.com/importancia-do-trabalho-generos-textuais-na-sala-aula/ 5 https://brasilescola.uol.com.br/redacao/conceito-generos-textuais.htm https://novaescola.org.br/conteudo/338/emilia-ferreiro-estudiosa-que-revolucionou-alfabetizacao https://novaescola.org.br/conteudo/338/emilia-ferreiro-estudiosa-que-revolucionou-alfabetizacao http://isacolli.com/importancia-do-trabalho-generos-textuais-na-sala-aula/
