De acordo com a Lei nº 5.509 de 1º de setembro de 2011, as responsabilidades de um Inspetor - Classe 1 na Guarda Municipal de São Luís são: I. Planejar atividades táticas para prevenir e dissuadir atos que ameacem os bens municipais, instalações, servidores e serviços; II. Gerenciar planos de manutenção preventiva para equipamentos e materiais da guarda municipal; III. Gerenciar atividades preventivas voltadas para a segurança do trânsito em vias municipais e locais públicos, em apoio aos agentes de trânsito municipais; IV. Gerenciar a supervisão dos guardas municipais sob sua responsabilidade em atividades de fiscalização urbana, removendo ambulantes ilegais de locais públicos municipais; V. Gerenciar atividades de orientação aos cidadãos quanto ao cumprimento das normas municipais, bem como reprimir ações que violem as regulamentações municipais; VI. Gerenciar atividades de defesa civil municipal; VII. Gerenciar ações de prevenção e resgate de vítimas de desastres, em apoio ao Sistema Municipal de Defesa Civil; VIII.
