Existem duas classificações principais para fraturas do seio frontal, de acordo com Bell (2009): tipo I e tipo II. As fraturas do tipo I consistem em fraturas fronto-naso-etmoidais e da parede medial da órbita sem envolvimento da base do crânio. Já as fraturas do tipo II envolvem a base do crânio, as suturas fronto-naso-etmoidais e a parede medial da órbita com compressão do nervo óptico. As fraturas do tipo II são caracterizadas por traumas de alta energia que resultam em rupturas graves de várias regiões da face e do crânio. Hematomas intracranianos podem se formar quando uma lesão na cabeça causa coágulos sanguíneos dentro do cérebro ou entre o cérebro e o crânio.
