De acordo com o plano de currículo, as habilidades e conhecimentos relacionados à língua portuguesa para o 8º ano do ensino fundamental incluem: - Identificar relações lógico-discursivas marcadas por conjunções, advérbios, entre outros elementos. - Identificar os efeitos de sentido resultantes da escolha de uma palavra ou expressão específica. - Identificar os efeitos de sentido resultantes da exploração de recursos ortográficos e/ou morfossintáticos. - Explicar os efeitos de sentido no uso de modalização e estratégias argumentativas (pontuação, adjetivos, substantivos, expressões de grau, verbos e perífrases verbais, advérbios, etc.) em textos. - Identificar, em textos lidos ou produzidos, agrupamentos de orações em períodos, diferenciando coordenação de subordinação. - Identificar orações subordinadas com conjunções frequentemente utilizadas em textos lidos, incorporando-as em suas próprias produções. - Utilizar, na produção de textos, recursos de coesão sequencial (articuladores) e coesão referencial (léxica e pronominal), construções passivas e impessoais, discurso direto e indireto, e outros recursos expressivos adequados ao gênero textual. - Estabelecer relações entre partes do texto, identificando o antecedente de um pronome relativo ou o referente comum de uma cadeia de substituições lexicais. - Analisar, considerando o contexto de produção, os efeitos de sentido causados pela escolha de uma palavra ou expressão específica em textos do gênero jurídico (lei, código, estatuto, regulamento, etc.). - Identificar, em notícias, o fato central, suas principais circunstâncias e possíveis consequências; em reportagens e foto reportagens, o fato ou tema retratado e a perspectiva de abordagem; em entrevistas, os principais temas/subtemas abordados, explicações fornecidas ou teses defendidas em relação a esses subtemas; em quadrinhos, memes e cartuns, a crítica, ironia ou humor presentes. - Interpretar textos com o auxílio de diversos materiais gráficos (anúncios, quadrinhos, fotos, etc.).
