What is the name of the disease caused by Leishmania brasiliensis and how is it transmitted?
Leishmania brasiliensis causes a disease known as ulcer-de-bauru or leishmaniasis. The disease causes progressive cutaneous ulcerations that can spread to the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose, and pharynx. The transmission to humans is made by the bite of the insect Phlebotomus intermedius, known as 'mosquito-palha' or 'birigüi'.
O nome da doença causada pela Leishmania brasiliensis é leishmaniose tegumentar ou úlcera de Bauru. A transmissão ocorre através da picada do inseto flebotomíneo, popularmente conhecido como mosquito-palha ou birigui.
