What is the tonic syllable?
The position of the tonic syllable determines the classification of the word.
Tonicity is verified from the end to the beginning of the word, that is, the tonic syllable will be in the antepenultimate, penultimate or last syllable.
When the tonic syllable is the antepenultimate, the word is classified as proparoxytone.
If the tonic syllable is the penultimate, the word will be paroxytone.
If the last syllable of the word is tonic, we will have an oxytone word.

A sílaba tônica é a sílaba que é pronunciada com maior intensidade em uma palavra. A posição da sílaba tônica determina a classificação da palavra em proparoxítona, paroxítona ou oxítona. A tonicidade é verificada do final para o início da palavra, ou seja, a sílaba tônica estará na antepenúltima, penúltima ou última sílaba. Quando a sílaba tônica é a antepenúltima, a palavra é classificada como proparoxítona. Se a sílaba tônica é a penúltima, a palavra será paroxítona. Se a última sílaba da palavra é tônica, teremos uma palavra oxítona.
