What are some common difficulties faced by individuals with autism according to the text?

The autistic person seems not to be interested in others, preferring to interact with inanimate objects rather than with another person. They have difficulty initiating interactions, often only responding to the initiation of others, but never spontaneously initiating an interaction.
Another common deficiency is the lack of learning empathy. Autistic individuals seem not to perceive the feelings of others or understand what others think, and they are not very skilled at expressing what they feel through facial and body expressions. These children need to be trained to emit empathic behaviors in the appropriate way and at the right time.
Regarding behavioral repertoire, this population tends to present a very restricted repertoire, with circumscribed concern for a special interest, compulsive dependence on routines, motor stereotypies, and concern with isolated parts of objects. Thus, the autistic person tends to always do the same things and not respond appropriately to different contexts, different people, and different demands.
It is necessary to investigate those behaviors that are not yet present in the child's repertoire so that they can be installed and can replace disruptive behaviors that have been learned. The intervention also involves training people who live with the child.
The lack of behavioral variability is among the behavioral impairments that define the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). According to DSM-V, autistics present all the correct alternatives.
Behavior modification techniques have been shown to be quite effective in treatment, especially in more severe cases of autism. For the behavior analyst to be a therapist means to act as an educator, since the treatment involves a comprehensive and structured process of teaching-learning or relearning.
One of the basic principles of ABA is that a behavior is any action that can be observed and counted, with a frequency and duration, and that this behavior can be explained by the stimulus-response conditioning.
All behaviors are learned in a general way, as well as problem behaviors. This does not mean that someone intentionally taught us to exhibit this type of problem behavior, only that we learned that they are effective in getting what we want.
The concept of infantile autism has evolved from a nosological framework to a behavioral perspective due to the support of many etiologies associated with it. The psychiatrist who described the syndrome as infantile autism was Leo Kanner.
