As principais estruturas que compõem as células bacterianas são: - Flagelos - Fímbrias e pili - Glicocálix - Parede celular - Membrana interna - Membrana externa A parede celular é responsável pela forma da célula e a protege do ambiente externo. O glicocálix é uma camada viscosa que cobre a célula bacteriana e permite que ela se adira a várias superfícies. Os flagelos são responsáveis pelo movimento das bactérias em ambientes aquosos. A técnica de coloração de Gram é usada para diferenciar bactérias Gram-positivas e Gram-negativas com base na espessura de suas paredes celulares.
