We use this tense to talk about actions that are happening at the time of speaking or around a present time.
I am reading a book now.
She is ironing my shirt.
Mum is cooking lunch at home.
He is reading a book this week.
Dad is working in the office.
TIME EXPRESSIONS

STATE VERBS
Some verbs can’t be used in progressive or continuous forms. Some of these are:
Verbs of thinking: understand, believe, know, remember.
Verbs of liking or disliking: like, love, prefer, hate.
Verbs of being and possession: be, own.
· One syllable verbs ending in one consonant preceded by one vowel double the final consonant.
Run- running
Sit – sitting
· Verbs ending in “ie” change to “y” and then add –ing.
Lie - lying
Dye - dying
SPELLING RULES
We add –ing to the base form.
Drink – drinking
Play- playing
Dream-dreaming
Special cases:
· Verbs ending in “e” omit “e” and then add –ing.
Live – living
Come coming
The Present Continuous is also used to talk about actions we have arranged to do. A future time expression is often used to give the future meaning to the sentence.
I´m visiting him next week.
She´s coming tomorrow.
They are leaving on Friday.
AFFIRMATIVE
Subject+ verb to be+ -ing form of the main verb.
NEGATIVE
Subject+ negative of the verb to be+ -ing form of the main verb.
INTERROGATIVE
Verb to be+subject+ -ing form of the main verb.
