LANDELL OU MARCONI: QUEM É O PIONEIRO?

RESUMO 
A história oficial da comunicação registra o cientista italiano Guglielmo Marconi 
como o "pai do rádio", enquanto vários autores brasileiros atribuem essa primazia 
ao padre e cientista gaúcho Roberto Landell de Moura. Enfrentando uma série de 
limitações, inclusive carência de apoio oficial, Landell de Moura pode ter promovido 
a primeira transmissão da voz humana sem a utilização de aparelhos ligados por 
fios. A preciosidade dessa história justifica a busca de elementos que apontem 
Landell de Moura como o verdadeiro precursor dos princípios que resultaram na 
difusão da palavra, ou então, que se aprofunde o conhecimento dos fatos que não 
permitiram que ele obtivesse o devido reconhecimento pelos seus inventos. A 
questão central, no aspecto da primazia do invento, é que não existe prova 
documental de que Landell de Moura efetivamente realizou a experiência de 
1893/1894, na Avenida Paulista, em São Paulo. Nada disso impede, porém, que 
hoje essa discussão seja retomada com o objetivo de se processar uma revisão da 
história da comunicação.

ABSTRACT 
The official history of communication registers the Italian scientist Guglielmo 
Marconi as “the father of the radio”, whereas various Brazilian authors assign this 
preeminence to the gaúcho priest and scientist Roberto Landell de Moura. Facing 
numerous limitations, including lack of official support, Landell de Moura may have 
promoted the first transmission of the human voice without using any equipment 
connected by wires. The preciousness of this history justifies the search for 
elements that point to Landell de Moura as the true precursor of the principles 
which resulted in the diffusion of the word, or then, that deepen the knowledge of 
the facts that did not allow him to obtain the due recognition by his invents. The 
core question concerning the preeminence of the invention is that there is no 
documental proof that Landell de Moura in effect realized the experience in 
1893/1894, at the Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo. However, this is no impediment 
that today this discussion is resumed with the objective of revising communication 
history.
