4a Questão Acerto: 0,0 / 1,0 Campbell also refers to the hero's journey as monomyth as he recognized a pattern in mythology, since heroes tend to go through the same stages as the stories unravel. This pattern, therefore, is observable both in more recent and more classical stories. Bearing this in mind, assess the following statements: I- The regular structure of the monomyth is three parted. BECAUSE II- It comprises the following steps: exposition and conflict; rising action and climax; and falling action and resolution. I is correct but II is incorrect. I and II are incorrect. Only II is correct. Both I and II are correct and II justifies I. Both I and II are correct, but II does not justify I. Respondido em 17/09/2022 13:56:30 Explicação: The "regular" structure of the plot of a story became known as a three parted composition, comprising: i) exposition and conflict; a ii) rising action and climax; and a iii) falling action and resolution. Therefore, Both I and II are correct and II justifies I. 5a Questão Acerto: 0,0 / 1,0 Roman de Renart is a clear example of how fables make use of animals in their stories. Talking animals, however, are not circumscribed to the narrative sphere, since there are at least two English poets who reworked animal fables into poems. Bearing this information in mind, assess the following statements: I- Edmund Spenser's Prosopopoia is one example BECAUSE II- It illustrates the theological debates of its time. I and II are correct but ii does not justify I. I is incorrect and II is correct. I and II are correct, and ii justifies I. I is correct and II is incorrect. I and II are incorrect. Respondido em 17/09/2022 13:56:35 Explicação: Edmund Spenser, in 1591, wrote Prosopopoia; or, Mother Hubberd's Tale, relating the stories of an ape and a fox who discover that there is a lot of similarities between life in court and life in the countryside. The poem that illustrates theological debatesof its time is John Dryden's The Hind and the Panther. Therefore, "I is correct and II is incorrect". 6a Questão Acerto: 0,0 / 1,0 Genre is what some might call "typified rhetorical action" and what that means is that there are features that repeat again and again, over time, with few differences, in part because audiences expect certain things to happen or because they want certain kinds of experiences. Genre is the name we use to describe the categories that have developed over time for what we read, what we watch, and what we listen to. And the kinds of genres that exist in one culture at one time may not exist in another culture at another time the're constantly changing. Source: https://liberalarts.oregonstate.edu/wlf/what-genre Bearing this quotation in mind, we can conclude that: sagas are narrative genres that even though derived from the Icelandic culture, trespassed the boundaries of space and time and were revamped, according to the times. Choose the alternative that contains only examples of sagas: Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and The Illiad. Le Morte d'Arthur and The Hobbit. Le Morte d¿Arthur and Animal Farm. Beowulf and Paradise Lost. Animal Farm and Mowgli. Respondido em 17/09/2022 13:56:37 Explicação: Even though the sagas were initially associated with the Icelandic culture, especially since its most popular type - Icelander sagas- dealt with the genealogy and historical past of a determined set of great families who lived around the X century in Iceland; the genre travelled and "changed" according to the historical circumstances and the audience in question. The Arthurian cycle, due to its blend of historical and legendary accounts, is considered a type of English saga. More contemporarily, Tolkien also updated the genre. The correct answer is thus: Le Morte d'Arthur and The Hobbit. 7a Questão Acerto: 1,0 / 1,0 "The young man was at the end of his rope. Seeing no way out, he dropped to his knees in prayer. "Lord, I can't go on," he said. "I have too heavy a cross to bear." The Lord replied, "My son, if you can't bear its weight, just place your cross inside this room. Then open another door and pick any cross you wish." The man was filled with relief. "Thank you, Lord," he sighed, and did as he was told. As he looked around the room, he saw many different crosses; some so large the tops were not visible. Then he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a far wall. "I'd like that one, Lord," he whispered. And the Lord replied, "My son, that's the cross you brought in."" Retrieved from: Parable Site - Parables. Date of access: 22/02/2022 Based on the text, evaluate the following statements and the relation between them: I. Through a relatable event, rather than a supernatural situation, the parable grasps the listener¿s attention and stimulate a reaction. BECAUSE II. The analogy is clear enough to avoid confusion but not simple to the point of obviousness. Regarding the assertions, choose the correct option: Assertions I and II are true propositions, and II correctly justifies I. Assertions I and II are true propositions, but II does not correctly justify I. Assertion I is a false proposition and assertion II is a true proposition. Assertions I and II are false propositions. Assertion I is a true proposition, and assertion II is a false proposition. Respondido em 17/09/2022 13:56:42 Explicação: Parables have the purpose of stimulating a reflection. The parable above talks about how little awareness we have of the dimension of our problems in comparison to other people's. We tend to look at our difficulties as if they were the worst, or only, placing ourselves in the position of victims, but when we can put our troubles into perspective, we realize there are others much worse. The parable is clear and simple, but it isn't evident to the point that dismisses reflection. 8a Questão Acerto: 0,0 / 1,0 The study of audiences is of major importance when analyzing parables. Many people may argue that such genre is more appealing to children or to uneducated people who will quickly agree with what is told if the lessons please them. For instance, does the fact that Jesus told parables to common people about unlikely historical events make the messages irrelevant or unreliable? Based on the reflection above, assess the following claims and the proposed relationship between them. I. Parables are made for anyone and everyone who is willing to learn BECAUSE II. When approaches to parables are overly intricate and refined, the impact on their first hearers may be misrepresented Regarding these claims, check the correct option. B I is a false proposition, and II is a true proposition. I is a true proposition, and II is a false proposition. I and II are true propositions, but II is not a correct justification of I. I and II are true propositions, and II is a correct justification of I. I and II are false propositions. Respondido em 17/09/2022 13:56:47 Explicação: Parables are made for everyone because through their simple and accessible narratives they can teach profound lessons to which anyone can relate. Such stories can test our minds, imagination and can even challenge our hearts, however they can be distorted, reduced, undermined, manipulated, and psychologized due to overinterpretations which steal from them their original meaning created for a specific group of people. 9a Questão Acerto: 0,0 / 1,0 The writer Frank O¿Connor was famous for his short stories, and he theorized about this genre in his book The Lonely Voice: a study of the short story (1962). In this work he states that shortness is not the defining aspect of the short story, but its engagement with the 'the voice of submerged populations'. Why does he say that? The protagonist matures as story develops. Protagonists are heroes. Protagonists are not heroes. Characters have equal relevance. There are no supporting characters. Respondido em 17/09/2022 13:56:49 Explicação: In O'Connor's view, the short story is a genre that never had a hero, and its protagonists have been collective groups of submerged populations. There are supporting characters, but only the ones involved in the dramatic unit are relevant, the others are satellites. Short stories portray a moment in life; thus, there is no room for the protagonist¿s growth. 10a Questão Acerto: 0,0 / 1,0 The novella has its origins in the Middle Ages, around the twelfth and thirteen centuries in France. This narrative form, dealing with themes as chivalry and courtly love is called 'chivalric romance'. There are other different types of novellas, depending on their themes and literary conventions. As an example, which type of novella may be considered a chivalric romance? The Murders in the Rue Morgue Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Archadia The Castle of Otranto Decameron O trecho a seguir desenvolve conceitos importantes para a Teoria da Narrativa, tais como gênero literário, a relações entre discurso, história e horizonte de expectativa. In: O livro dos abraços. Trad. Eric Nepomuceno. Porto Alegre: L&PM, 2002. A respeito dessas asserções, marque a alternativa correta: A asserção I é uma proposição falsa, e a II é uma proposição verdadeira. As asserções I e II são proposições verdadeiras, mas a II não é uma justificativa correta da I. A asserção I é uma proposição verdadeira, e a II é uma proposição falsa. As asserções I e II são proposições falsas. A respeito dessas asserções, marque a opção correta. A asserção I é uma proposição verdadeira, e a II é uma proposição falsa. As asserções I e II são proposições falsas. 3a Questão Acerto: 1,0 / 1,0 A tia girou a chave, empurrou a porta, Ê!, algo a emperrava, estranhou. Adaptado de: RUFFATO, Luiz. Natureza-morta. In: Eles eram muitos cavalos. Descrição do espaço e poucos diálogos. 4a Questão Acerto: 1,0 / 1,0 John Milton's Paradise Lost opens with the following verses. OF Mans First Disobedience, and the Fruit Of that Forbidden Tree, whose mortal tast Brought Death into the World, and all our woe, With loss of Eden, till one greater Man Restore us, and regain the blissful Seat, Sing Heav'nly Muse, that on the secret top Of Oreb, or of Sinai, didst inspire That Shepherd, who first taught the chosen Seed, In the Beginning how the Heav'ns and Earth Rose out of Chaos: or if Sion Hill Delight thee more, and Siloa's brook that flow'd Fast by the Oracle of God; I thence Invoke thy aid to my adventrous Song, That with no middle flight intends to soar Above th' Aonian Mount, while it pursues Things unattempted yet in Prose or Rhime (MILTON, Paradise Lost, Book I) Source: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/45718/paradise-lost-book-1-1674-version The verses exemplify one of the most common features of epic poems. Which feature is this? Alliteration The exposition and conflict The invocation of the Muse The use of unrhymed verses The climax Respondido em 13/09/2022 17:18:28 Explicação: In the verses above the poet asks for the Muse's aid in his attempt of composing verses never yet written: about the Fall of Man, about Man's first disobedience. The epic's most common opening usually asks a Muse to inspire the poet to tell his tale and guide him through the narrative which he needs to share with his audience. The verses hence exemplify "The invocation of the Muse". 5a Questão Acerto: 1,0 / 1,0 The word Saga comes from the German word: sagen, which is synonymous with "say" or "tell"; originally, then, it used to refer to all types of histories or stories, such as: biographies, hagiographies, or historiographies, for instance. As a literary genre, however, it became popular as: Imaginative reconstructions of the past by means of blending legend and history. Realistic accounts of life in the Middle Ages. Icelandic folktales since the genre became circumscribed to very specific geographic and historical circumstances. Legendary accounts passed down from generation to generation about certain indigenous populations. Storiesthat trace back origins of kingdoms. Respondido em 13/09/2022 17:18:53 Explicação: The term's specific meaning, as a narrative genre, would be an imaginative reconstruction of the mythical past, usually blending it with historical fiction, according to a particular aesthetic structural choice. Medieval Icelandic narrative fiction can be classified as kings' sagas, legendary sagas, and sagas of Icelanders. The genre, despite its Icelandic origins, was not circumscribed to medieval Iceland and even contemporary takes on the genre can be found nowadays. The correct answer is then: "Imaginative reconstructions of the past by means of blending legend and history". 6a Questão Acerto: 1,0 / 1,0 "Heroic Beowulf and his band of men crossed the wide strand, striding along the sandy foreshore; the sun shone (...)" (ll. 1963 -1965). Source: HEANEY, Seamus (trans.). Beowulf. London: W. W. Norton & Company, 2001. After reading the verses above out loud, it is possible to identify... ... that it has been written without any regard for the original in Old English. ... that it follows an altogether modern metric system. ... that it has been written in iambic pentameter. ... that it follows the Homerian epic using the dactylic hexameter. ... that it has been written as an alliterative verse. Respondido em 13/09/2022 17:21:40 Explicação: It is very common in Anglo-Saxon poetry to find what is deemed alliterative verses, that is to say, verses that rely not on rhyme but rather on repeating consonant sounds such as the recurrent s and st at the beginning of the words on the verses above. The verses above were retrieved from Heaney¿s translation which followed the Anglo-Saxon metric scheme to structure Beowulf's tale. Old English verses such as those featuring in Beowulf usually are made up of two leveled halves, each containing two stressed syllables and a heavy pause in the middle of the verse. The only correct answer is: "that it has been written as an alliterative verse". 7a Questão Acerto: 1,0 / 1,0 Saint 9/11, by Glenn Holsten, depicts the life of a gay priest who struggled with alcoholism and had his life interrupted by the September 11 attacks. The documentary describes the restless spiritual journey of Father Mychal Judge, an adored Fire Department Chaplain, compassionate of the needy and forgotten in the city of New York. Like Father Michael, the lives of many other saints have been transformed into movies, combining fact and fiction in a way comparable to the legend of the saints. Bearing this in mind, hagiography contributes to history by: exposing the author's mentality, purpose and materials used as sources, all of which are essential for the work of a historian. precisely depicting the rivalry between saints and their followers, clarifying the distinction between contemporary devotion to different holy figures. explaining about places, origins of certain saints, giving reasons for the construction of a church or elucidating motives for a pilgrimage. producing unique biographies of important historical figures, necessary to the study of religious institutions and personalities. providing historical evidence about the Church and its devotees through evidence-based accounts. Respondido em 13/09/2022 17:23:54 Explicação: Legends, unlike myths and tales, presuppose a historical fact as basis. They are not entirely historical but should not be excluded as important historiographical sources. Although the intention is not to recount history, places can sometimes be described, as well as the origin or importance of a saint. Other elements may include intentions behind the building of a church or motivations for a pilgrimage. Nonetheless, depending on the author, many historical facts may be distorted since the aim is to praise a particular saint in detriment of others. What is factually useful must be questioned alongside the author¿s mentality, purpose and materials used as source, so that all that is valuable is carefully extracted 8a Questão Acerto: 1,0 / 1,0 He told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Available at: Matthew 13:31-32 NIV - The Parables of the Mustard Seed and - Bible Gateway. Data of access: 17/02/2022 Considering the elements present in the text you have just read, evaluate the following affirmations: Jesus uses the comparison of the mustard seed planted by a man with the objective of stimulating his listeners to change their way of thinking about spirituality. The parable utilizes supernatural elements to represent a factual event, given the impact magical features have on an audience, greater than truthful accounts. When the context is carefully studied, the allegory¿s only interpretation becomes obvious and unquestionable. Scholars must examine the context in which such parable was told in order to make a more precise interpretation of the message taught. Choose the option that connects the only two correct statements: I and III. I and II. I, II and IV. I and IV. II and III. Respondido em 13/09/2022 17:28:26 Explicação: The parables of Jesus had the objective of transmitting teachings of spirituality and revealing the mysteries surrounding the foundation of the world. Nonetheless, the purpose of parables is to change the way people think by provoking a reaction on readers and listeners, regardless of the message behind the story. Furthermore, interpreters must not make the mistake of analyzing parables through the lenses of modernity, but rather try to understand the stories through the eyes and ears of the audience to which the parables were first told. This is part of the context, fundamental for their interpretation. 9a Questão Acerto: 1,0 / 1,0 The Argentinian writer Ricardo Piglia in his text "Theses on the Short Story" states that a short story always tells two stories. Why does he say that? Short stories have double meanings. Short stories have at least two climaxes. The short story is a genre that presents some subplots. The short story is a tale that encloses a secret tale. Short stories usually have a sequel. Respondido em 13/09/2022 17:43:38 Explicação: Within every story there are always two stories, one visible and the other hidden, something which is not revealed immediately. A visible story hides a secret tale, narrated in an elliptical and fragmentary manner. The effect of surprise is produced when the end of the secret story appears on the surface. The double meanings of short stories are not the rule, and when they happen, they are a matter of interpretation, not present in the form of the short story, as Piglia points out. Sequels might be produced or not, and climaxes do not have anything to the existence of two stories within a short story. Subplots are not a component of a short story, there is no time or space for that. Subplots are common in novels. 10a Questão Acerto: 0,0 / 1,0 The fictional narrative tells a story, a sequence of facts, in which characters move in a certain space as time passes. Its structure encompasses presentation, development climax and denouement. How can denouement be defined? The series of events in the story. The resolution of the conflict in a story. The first part of a narrative. The introduction of the theme. A dramatic turning point in a narrative.
