The story is set in Nazi Germany during World War II, so there are many scenes of 
violence.
It was painful to watch it […] I couldn’t stop crying. However, if you don’t mind feeling 
down and want to better understand this period of history, I highly recommend The Book 
Thief. The way the Nazis treated Jews is something that cannot be forgotten by younger 
generations.

The story is set in Nazi Germany during World War II, so there are many scenes 
of violence.
It was painful to watch it […] I couldn’t stop crying. However, if you don’t mind 
feeling down and want to better understand this period of history, I highly 
recommend The Book Thief. The way the Nazis treated Jews is something that 
cannot be forgotten by younger generations.
Here, there is a lead related to the 
impressions the critic had about the 
film and the rating he/she gave it. In the body of the 
message, the critic explains 
where the story takes place 
and indicates to the reader 
that it has many scenes of 
violence.
The critic also shows 
his/her impressions related 
to the film: he/she couldn’t 
stop crying, and it was 
painful to watch it.
He/she also highly 
recommends the film.

Resenha é um gênero textual que consiste na descrição de um texto 
ou de um filme, no qual quem escreve pode expressar a sua 
opinião.
As resenhas são lidas pelas pessoas que pretendem saber algo 
acerca de um conteúdo (do que se trata ou se é bem avaliado pela 
crítica, por exemplo). Por isso, elas podem influenciar a escolha do 
leitor, que tem dúvida sobre ler um livro ou outro, e do espectador, 
que ainda não decidiu se quer ou não assistir a um determinado 
filme.
Agora, vamos retomar algumas características do gênero resenha 
crítica.
Foco no conteúdo
A diferença entre resumo e resenha é que o resumo descreve os 
acontecimentos de um texto ou filme de forma breve, ou seja, sem 
detalhes. A resenha, por sua vez, relata sobre o assunto de que o 
texto ou o filme aborda, sem descrever os acontecimentos.
Isso quer dizer que o resumo é uma apresentação breve e fiel ao 
texto. Assim, quem o escreve não acrescenta nada novo, bem como 
não opina acerca do seu conteúdo.
O objetivo da resenha não é descrever o conteúdo de forma 
resumida, mas levar o leitor a conhecer a proposta apresentada 
pelo texto, influenciando, assim, a sua escolha.

Tipos de resenhas
As resenhas podem ser descritivas ou críticas.
Resenha descritiva
Nesse tipo de resenha, o resenhista leva o leitor a conhecer um 
pouco sobre o autor e sua obra. O assunto abordado no livro é feito 
de forma bastante breve, ou seja, sem detalhar personagens e 
acontecimentos.
A resenha descritiva é informativa, pois consiste em uma forma de 
expor algo relativo a um conteúdo, sem relatar a sua história e 
fazer julgamentos.
Foco no conteúdo
Resenha crítica
Também chamada de opinativa, nesse tipo de resenha, além de 
expor algo a respeito de um conteúdo, o autor dá a sua opinião de 
forma crítica, influenciando o comportamento dos leitores.
Sem detalhar um livro ou um filme, por exemplo, o autor da 
resenha crítica informa ao leitor qual o seu enredo, mas não conta a 
sua história. O autor diz o que pensa acerca do texto ou do livro, 
opinando sobre o conteúdo e o estilo utilizado.
Foco no conteúdo
Características principais de uma resenha:

✔ Objetividade;
✔ Apresentação de argumentos para defender pontos de 
vistas/opiniões.

Annoying fake accent

The Book Thief is overrated. Being about the Second World War doesn’t guarantee a high-quality 
movie. In my opinion, it is a bad adaptation of Markus Zusak’s book. Besides, the fake German accent 
of the main characters is extremely annoying. It sounds artificial and stereotyped.

Unfaithful to the book

I didn’t like it. The book is so much better! I think the screenwriter left some important details behind 
and changed crucial points of the original story. In addition, the movie gives us a stereotyped image 
of German people, which is reinforced by the acting. 
Liesel (Sophie Nélisse), for example, is an Anne Frank copy.

Great historical movie!

I had the impression I had traveled through time while watching The Book Thief. 
The director tried to be as faithful to reality as possible. An interesting fact is that the 
movie portrays Nazi Germany without focusing on Holocaust victims only. So, we get to 
know this time in history from a different perspective. Besides, Geoffrey Rush and Emily 
Watson are amazing as Hans and Rosa Hubermann. They even get to soften the dark 
atmosphere of the story with their acting.
