READING

Read these testimonials from students who had experiences abroad and check the appropriate slot(s) to

make the sentences true.

(Total: 5 points - 0.5 each correct answer)

Achmed – Saudi Arabia

I went to the United

States from Saudi Arabia

to fi nish high-school. is

was truly a coming of

age experience for me. I

learned so much about

myself and how I interact

with the world. I loved

that I was surrounded by

people who shared my

curiosity and travelling

passion. is study abroad experience taught me

to appreciate di erent cultures. I have to confess I

expected to face some prejudice, and sometimes

I did, but we sometimes take stereotypes too

seriously. When you meet and talk to real people,

all biased stereotypes simply disappear. at was

true for myself and for the people I met.

Henry – Belgium

My experience

abroad was a bit of a

disappointment. I spent

three months in Brazil,

and it didn’t go exactly

as I planned, but I guess

it was kind of my fault.

I thought learning

Portuguese was going to

be easy, so I didn’t study

anything before. By the time my Portuguese was

beginning to come together, I had to come back.

It was a pity because I missed lots of chances to

know the country and the people better. So my

advice to you is to learn the language before, or go

to a country where they speak your language. If

you do this, you are going to enjoy the experience

a lot more.

Maria – Russia

Before deciding to

come to Germany for

my graduate studies, I

have to confess I was

skeptical about these

programs. But then

I read so many good

testimonials from

people who had great

experiences that I

thought: well, it must

be true then. And I’m

glad I did come. If you’re in doubt about joining

a program, you should get a lot of information

and talk to people who have already done this.

I guarantee you’re going to love the experience.

e opportunities for learning and for cultural

exchange are truly unique.

Hanna –

Netherlands

Studying abroad in

South Africa was

the best choice I

made in my life! e

whole experience has

been completely life

changing for me. I can

honestly say that I

came back a changed

person. I’ll never forget

a safari we went on, and the awesome feeling of being

so close to nature. If you have a chance to have this

kind of experience abroad, you should do it. Going

to another country to study and travel is an amazing

thing to do therefore I urge students to explore the

beautiful world and cultures while studying abroad.

Let’s all go study abroad!

CNA EXPANSION 1_MIDTERM_TESTB.indd 2 01/07/15 11:13

MIDTERM TEST - TYPE B | 3

3.
