A second opinion about “fast fashion”
In such a modern world, if you are not able to follow the trends you will be cut off. Shein, Renner, Riachuelo, Zara and a lot of stories are offering new clothes every single day, what allows you to follow the trends. Honestly, I believe a huge amount of people must think it’s cool and fancy (and I’m not totally disagreeing), but do you think the advantages of fast fashion outweigh the disadvantages? I’m not sure about this.
Back in the day being stylish was completely inaccessible, this scenario has changed a lot since fast fashion arrived in our society, what allowed most people access to this, democratizing style and fashion. We can mention Shein as a good example. Searching this platform you can find a lot of cheap and modern clothes for every single occasion paying a cheap price. It is a dream, isn’t it? Of course It’s a good advantage of fast fashion, but what exists behind this business is worst than you can imagine.
Imagine working for many hours, in bad conditions, without any labor rights and perspective. Now, is it a dream? No, it isn’t, it is the reality in this industry. To produce your cheap jeans, jacket or T-shirt people are working in exploitative and abusive environments that deeply harm workers. In other words, while we are trying to follow the trends, people into these manufacturing systems are only fighting to survive. Could you sleep well knowing that it works like this?
In Nutshell, despite the advantages in terms of accessibility that fast fashion offers, it doesn’t compensate the social and environmental issues behind its system.
