Inglês 31) Texto para as questões 31 a 33. The Surprising Secret to Weight Loss If you’re looking for a simple way to lose weight and improve your health, don’t look to flashy ads or trendy diets. Instead, try this often-overlooked plan: fiber-rich meals. If you’re like most people, you’re probably familiar with common weight-loss tricks: always eat breakfast. Bypass fried and fatty foods. Boost your intake of fruits and vegetables. Drink plenty of water. But you may not realize an often-overlooked secret to weight loss and health: fiber-rich foods. Fiber is an essential part of any diet, but Americans are often shortchanged on it. While dietitians recommend that adults consume between 25 and 38 grams of fiber a day, recent studies find that most adults get less than half that amount – between 11 and 19 grams a day. You may be surprised to learn bthat fiber is not only important for good health and proper nutrition – it’s also a key part of weight loss. OK, so what is fiber, anyway? “Fiber is a part of foods that cannot be digested,” says Dawn Jackson, a registered dietitian and author of Superfood Swap. “It’s found in plant foods, and there are two kinds – soluble and insoluble.” The two types react differently in water – soluble fiber dissolves in water, becoming gummy, while insoluble fiber doesn’t dissolve in water. “Soluble fiber acts more like a sponge,” says Jackson. “It helps suck cholesterol out and lower bad cholesterol levels.” Insoluble fiber acts more like a broom than a sponge, essentially sweeping out your intestines and keeping the area clean, adds Jackson. “They both play different roles, but they’re equally important in promoting general health,” she says. But fiber has other benefits too. “We’ve also been linking diets high in fiber to a decreased risk of colon cancer, diverticulosis, high blood pressure, and some forms of cancer,” says Jackson. “And since it lowers cholesterol levels, fiber is related to improved heart health.” Increasing fiber intake may also help people with diabetes manage their blood sugar. Texto para a questão 34. Most people today have a mobile phone. In fact, many people can’t imagine how they ever got along without a portable phone. However, many people also complain about cell phone users. People complain about other people loudly discussing personal matters in public places. They complain when cell phones ring in movie theaters and concert halls. They complain about people driving too slowly, and not paying attention to where they are going because they are talking on a cell phone. And they complain about people walking around talking to people who aren’t there. Whenever a new communications technology becomes popular, it changes the way society is organized. Society has to invent rules for the polite way to use the new devices. Our social etiquette, our rules of politeness for cell phones, is still evolving. Disponível em: www.indianchild.com. Almost immediately, all of our fantasies came alive on the web. What would, let’s say, Ruth Bader Ginsburg look like on a $20 bill? Where would we spend our Beyoncé $10 bill first? Will our grandmas give us a Susan B. Anthony $5 bill on our birthdays and tell us not to spend it all at once? But then we remembered: because of the wage gap, a dollar for a woman is not the same as a dollar for a man. Although the true extent of the gender pay gap is widely disputed even among feminists, President Obama said in the 2014 State of the Union that women make only 77¢ for every dollar a man makes.
