3. Century or specific time in past etc 
e.g. in 21st century, in stone age, in past, in future, in present 
ON 1. Day 
e.g. on Monday, on Tuesday morning 
2. Date 
e.g. on 5th of March, March 5 
3. Particular day 
e.g. on Independence Day, on my birthday, on the next day, on 
the morning of September 11th 
AT 1. Time of clock 
e.g. at 5 O’clock, at 7:30 PM 
2. Short and precise time or age 
e.g. at noon, at sunset, at bed time, at the moment, at the same 
time, at breakfast, at Christmas, at night, at the weekend, at 
that time, at age 6. 
BY Not later than a specific time 
e.g. by 6:00, by age 30 
FOR When we measure time (seconds, minutes, hours, days, 
months, years). 
e.g. He held his breath for seven minutes. 
She's lived there for seven years. 
The British and Irish have been quarreling for seven centuries. 
SINCE 
 
With a specific date or time.

She's been sitting in the waiting room since two-thirty.
