Essa força horizontal pode ser considerada distribuída em uma área de aplicação de 30 cm x 30 cm. Alternativamente, podem-se prever barreiras que impeçam o acesso dos veículos à parede ou guarda-corpo, sendo que estas devem resistir à mesma força horizontal especificada anteriormente. Para todos os casos, a força horizontal pode ser considerada excepcional, conforme a ABNT NBR 8681, e não concomitante com outras forças variáveis em barreiras ou guarda-corpos. Pilares próximos a descidas de rampas (Figura 7) devem ser verificados para forças horizontais com o dobro do valor indicado nas colunas 6 e 7 da Tabela 13.
