B - Até mais… Verbo To Be Na língua inglesa, o verb to be exerce mais de um papel. Além de ter o sentido de “ser” e “estar” em português, ele também tem a função de verbo auxiliar ou helping verb em outros tempos verbais, ou seja, ele acompanha o verbo principal da frase. Tais características tornam o verb to be um dos principais verbos da língua inglesa. Portanto, ao estudar o verbo to be, é necessário entender com clareza os diferentes papéis que ele pode desempenhar nas orações. Deve-se atentar também ao verbo to be no presente, no passado e no futuro. Para que não restem dúvidas, estudaremos neste texto o uso do verb to be nas frases afirmativa, interrogativa e negativa, em diferentes tempos verbais, por meio de exemplos. Como usar o verbo to be? O verb to be é irregular, isto é, ele possui três formas no presente simples: am, is, are; duas formas no passado simples: was, were; uma forma no futuro simples: will be; uma forma no particípio presente: being; e uma forma no particípio passado: been. Quando ele ocupa a posição de verbo principal da oração, temos o sentido de ser e estar. Caso contrário, ele ocupará a posição de auxiliary verb (verbo auxiliar), acompanhando o main verb (verbo principal) da frase, especificamente nos tempos progressivos: present progressive, past progressive and future progressive, present/past/future perfect progressive. O verb to be também é usado na voz passiva (passive voice).
