e-Tec BrasilAula 7 | Indo ao restaurante. It’s time to eat! 189 Aula 7 | Indo ao restaurante. It’s time to eat! Apresentar o uso do grau comparativo e superlativo. Introduzir mais alguns substantivos contáveis e incontáveis. Evidenciar a formação do there to be (presente e passado) e sua importância na compre- ensão de textos. Veremos também nesta aula o uso do there to be no presente e no passado. Breakfast in New York Robert e Bruno chegam ao “Breakfast Buffet”. Waitress: Hello, can I help you? Bruno: Hi, yes. We’d like a table for two. Waitress: Do you have a reservation? Bruno: No, we don’t. Waitress: Wait a minute. I’m gonna check if we have one. Waitress: It includes coffee, milk, juice, cereal, granola, cheese, ham, bacon and eggs, pancakes, jam, fruits and bread. Robert: Oh, it sounds good. A really traditional breakfast in New York. Bruno: Yes, it’s really good. So you can get one for us please. Waitress: Ok, sir. Just a minute please. Exemplos: There is a new program for computers. (Há / Existe um novo programa para computadores.) There is a monkey in the tree. (Há / Existe um macaco na árvore.) There are twelve cats in the apartment. (Há / Existem doze gatos no aparta- mento.) There are few monarchies in the world nowadays. (Há / Existem poucas mo- narquias no mundo atualmente.) Como podemos perceber, “there is” será usado em frases no singular e “there are” em frases no plural. Se formos nos referir a algo que não existe, usaremos “there is” ou “there are”, acrescidos da palavra “not”. Exemplos: There isn’t a dog in the house. (Não há um cachorro na casa.) There isn’t a television in my classroom. There aren’t twelve cats in the apartment. (Não há doze gatos no aparta- mento.) There aren’t twenty books in my school bag. (Não há vinte livros em minha mochila.) Turismoe-Tec Brasil 214 Para fazermos perguntas com “there is” ou “there are” invertemos a ordem, ou seja, o verbo “to be” vem antes do “there”. Exemplos: Are there mountains in Scotland? (Há montanhas na Escócia?) Is there reggae in Jamaica? (Há reggae na Jamaica?) Para você compreender melhor o que acabamos de explicar, observe o qua- dro a seguir: There + to be (Simple Present) Afirmativa Negativa Interrogativa Singular Há; Existe There is (There’s) There is not (There isn’t) Is there? Plural Há; existem There are There are not (There aren’t) Are there? It’s time to eat! Atividade 8 Atende ao Objetivo 4 Complete as orações com there + to be no Simple Present. A: a) many monarchies in the world nowadays? B: No, many. A: b) a bank near here? In Europe g) only 16 countries. In Africa h) two famous deserts. i) ten planets in the Solar System. There to be - Past O “there to be” aparece também na forma Simple Past (passado simples), que será o “there” + “was” ou “were”. Seu significado é “havia”, “existia” ou “existiam”. O “there was” é usado em frases no singular e o “there were” em frases no plural. Para entender melhor, observe o quadro a seguir: Afirmativa Negativa Interrogativa Singular Houve Havia Existia There was There was not (There wasn’t) Was there? Plural Houve Havia Existiam There were There were not (There weren’t) Were there? e-Tec BrasilAula 7 | Indo ao restaurante. It’s time to eat! 217 Exemplo: There was an eraser on the table.
