What is the process of rolling?
Rolling consists of modifying the section of a mass of metal by passing it between two cylinders, leaving a distance between them smaller than the initial thickness of the mass.
The products are dragged by the cylinder under the effect of friction forces, which originate at the contact surface of the cylinders and the rolled metal.
When passing between the cylinders, the metal undergoes plastic deformation. The thickness is reduced while the width and, mainly, the length are increased.
Under normal conditions, the result obtained is the elongation of the material, with its widening being relatively small.

O processo de laminação consiste em modificar a seção de uma massa de metal ao passá-la entre dois cilindros, deixando uma distância entre eles menor do que a espessura inicial da massa. Os produtos são arrastados pelo cilindro sob o efeito de forças de atrito, que se originam na superfície de contato dos cilindros e do metal laminado. Ao passar entre os cilindros, o metal sofre deformação plástica. A espessura é reduzida enquanto a largura e, principalmente, o comprimento são aumentados. Em condições normais, o resultado obtido é o alongamento do material, com seu alargamento sendo relativamente pequeno.
