The journey, which goes through the emergence of the two poles of subject and object and leads to the logic of modern sciences, was slow. The separation of the world of utensils from the mythical-magical view was gradual, as attested by ethnology and exemplified by various myths, of which the myth of Prometheus is paradigmatic in our Western culture. This separation was concomitant with the very process of incessant transformation of utensils and with the recognition of the malleable and docile character of a 'material reality' that nevertheless obeys its own rules.
