Employers engaged in such work are also required</p><p>to be familiar with and comply with ‘Vestas Corporate OH&S Manual’ and</p><p>documents holding specific turbine safety instructions for the relevant turbine</p><p>type. Vestas shall not be responsible for any liabilities arising from failure to</p><p>comply with such requirements. Vestas reserves the right to inspect such work to</p><p>ascertain such compliance.</p><p>Personal Protective Equipment</p><p>Item no. Quantity Description</p><p>Standard personal protective equipment (PPE).</p><p>Table 1-1: Required PPE.</p><p>2 Educational Requirements of Service Technician</p><p>At least two of the service technicians working in a wind turbine are required to</p><p>possess valid course certificates for the ‘Vestas Basic Safety Training for Service</p><p>Technicians’, including basic safety theory, first aid, fire prevention and fire</p><p>fighting, emergency descent and any additional safety courses owing to local</p><p>requirements.</p><p>At least one service technician must possess the wind turbine specific course</p><p>certificate for the turbine in question.</p><p>Some tasks require one or more advanced training modules or job specific</p><p>training as described in the Vestas ‘Technical Training Programme’. Turn the service key to position ‘1’ to set turbine to service mode.</p><p>2. Perform a service stop in the Turbine Access Controller (TAC).</p><p>3. Place a ‘DANGER, DO NOT OPERATE’ tag on the service key. See Figure</p><p>13-1, p. 6.</p><p>4. Secure the coupling with the hoist and slowly lower the gearbox side rubber</p><p>element to the nacelle floor.</p><p>6. Lift the generator side rubber element and slowly lower the rubber element to</p><p>the nacelle floor.</p><p>7. Split the new coupling.</p><p>8. Make sure that the orientation is correct while you install the rubber element</p><p>of the generator coupling.</p><p>9. Lift the gearbox side rubber element and install the rubber element on the</p><p>distance tube with M16 bolts and nuts.</p><p>10. Lift the generator side rubber element and put the rubber element on the</p><p>generator shrink disc.</p><p>11. Slide the generator side rubber element and install the pin between the 2</p><p>elements.</p><p>12. Install the connecting bolts of the rubber element and tighten the connecting</p><p>bolts.</p><p>13. Install the link arms on the generator shrink disc and the rubber elements.</p><p>14. Dismantle the cover on the coupling and securely hang the cover on the</p><p>generator as shown in Figure 13-10, p. 11.</p><p>17. Attach end cover lifting tool to the generator lifting ears using the hardware</p><p>and fittings included with the end cover lifting tool kit. See Figure 13-11, p. 11.</p><p>19.</p><p>Make alignment marks on the H.S. coupling and brake disc for realignment of</p><p>these parts during the reassembly process.</p><p>20. Attach a ratchet lever hoist to the end cover lifting tool pivot arm (this is the</p><p>pivot arm ratchet lever hoist) and wrap the chain around the H.S. coupling</p><p>and hook it to itself.</p><p>Figure 13-12: Brake disc at gearbox side</p><p>21. Dismount the bolts going through the brake disc to the distance tube for the</p><p>coupling (See Figure 13-12, p. 12). Leave one bolt prior to lifting and</p><p>lowering.</p><p>22. Dismantle the bolts from the distance tube to the rubber element.</p><p>23. Gently lift and lower the distance tube. Two technicians must be involved in</p><p>the lifting process.</p><p>24. Lift and lower the coupling element.</p><p>25. Lift the element in place and</p><p>tighten it to the distance tube. Mount the link arm first at the generator and then at</p><p>the coupling. Mount the link arm first in the sides and bottom and then in the top.</p><p>If a link arm is damaged and needs replacement, all link elements must be</p><p>replaced at the same time because they are balanced together.</p><p>13.4 Dismantling the Coupling - NM82/1650, NM72/1650</p><p>1. Dismantle the cover on the coupling and securely hang it on the generator as</p><p>shown in Figure 13-13, p. 13.</p><p>3. Remove the brake wear sensor and store it in a safe place. See Figure 13-14,</p><p>p. 14.</p><p>5. Remove the speed sensor, its bracket and spacers from the generator end</p><p>cover and store them under the generator for later use during the bearing</p><p>replacement procedure. Loosen but do not remove the bolts holding the H.S. coupling arms to the</p><p>H.S. coupling. See Figure 13-16, p. 14.</p><p>Figure 13-17: Loosening shrink-disc</p><p>7. Loosen the generator shrink disc bolts in a circular fashion and repeat the</p><p>loosening pattern on other bolts until all have been loosened. Completely remove H.S. coupling bolts that are next to the rotor lock bolt</p><p>hole. See Figure 13-18, p. 16.</p><p>The bolt(s) behind the locking bolt bracket are inaccessible when the brake is</p><p>locked. Using a crow bar, gently release the H.S. coupling arms free of the generator</p><p>hub flange and brake disc. See Figure 13-21, p. 17.</p><p>14. Using the pivot arm ratchet lever hoist, lift the H.S. coupling into position.</p><p>2. Re-install the bolts first through the hubs.</p><p>3. Re-install the bolts through the coupling arms, nuts and washers. See Figure</p><p>13-23, p. 18.</p><p>1. Remember to use the alignment marks from section 13.3, step 10.</p><p>2. High-speed coupling arm washers are placed under the nuts with the bevel on</p><p>the inside of the hole in the washer toward the nut.</p><p>4. Torque all H.S. coupling bolts.</p><p>5. Torque all H.S. coupling pivot bolts.</p><p>6. Torque the generator end cover bolts.</p><p>7. Install brackets for the H.S. coupling cover.</p><p>8. Install the speed sensor and torque the attachment bolts.</p><p>9. Re-route and secure speed sensor wiring.</p><p>10. Install the</p><p>brake wear sensor, re-routing and securing its associated wiring.</p><p>11. Install the H.S. shaft cover.</p><p>12. Ensure that the generator alignment is within tolerance. Refer to SWI</p><p>1001477 ‘Service Instruction - Generator’ for more information.</p><p>13. Clean the work area.</p><p>14.
