Present Continuous
Estrutura:
Afirmativa:
Sujeito + verbo auxiliar (am/is/are) + verbo principal com "ing".
Exemplos:
- I am working.
- You are applying.
- He is pretending.
Negativa (forma completa):
Sujeito + verbo auxiliar (am/is/are) + "not" + verbo principal com "ing".
Exemplos:
- I am not working.
- You are not applying.
- He is not pretending.
Negativa (forma contraída):
Sujeito + verbo auxiliar contraído (am not/isn't/aren't) + verbo principal com "ing".
Exemplos:
- I’m not working.
- He isn’t pretending.
- They aren’t dating.
Perguntas (yes/no):
Verbo auxiliar (am/is/are) + sujeito + verbo principal com "ing".
Exemplos:
- Am I working?
- Is he pretending?
- Are they dating?
Perguntas (wh-questions):
Palavra interrogativa + verbo auxiliar (am/is/are) + sujeito + verbo principal com "ing".
Exemplos:
- What am I working on?
- Why is it stopping?
- Where are we traveling to?
Usos no Presente:
1. Agora: Descrever ações que estão acontecendo no momento da fala.
Exemplos:
- I am working.
- The baby is sleeping.
2. Ao Redor de Agora: Ações que estão acontecendo ao redor do momento presente.
Exemplo:
- I am writing a novel.
3. Temporário: Ações temporárias.
Exemplo:
- I am staying at my friend's house.
4. Tendência: Descrever tendências.
Exemplo:
- The birth rate is decreasing each year.
5. Ação Repetida: Descrever ações repetidas de forma negativa.
Exemplo:
- She is always speaking on the telephone very loudly.
Usos no Futuro:
Descrever ações que já foram planejadas para o futuro.
Exemplo:
- I’m meeting my father tonight.
- She is coming to our flat later.
- We are having fish for dinner.
Quando Não Usar o Present Continuous:
Ações Permanentes:
Exemplo:
- I am living in Canada.
- I am working at BBC Company.
Alguns Verbos:
Exemplo:
- I am understanding English.
- They are having a car.
Soletração:
Verbos que terminam com "e": Remover o "e" e adicionar "ing".
Exemplo:
- Make - Making.
- Write - Writing.
Verbos que terminam com "ie": Trocar "ie" por "y" e adicionar "ing".
Exemplo:
- Die - Dying.
- Lie - Lying.
Verbos que terminam em consoante + vogal + consoante: Dobrar a última consoante e adicionar "ing".
Exemplo:
- Stop - Stopping.
- Run - Running.
Verb To Be
Estrutura:
Afirmativa:
Sujeito + verbo to be + verbo principal com "ing".
Exemplo:
- I am being.
- You are being.
- He is being.
Negativa:
Sujeito + verbo to be + "not" + verbo principal com "ing".
Exemplo:
- I am not being.
- You are not being.
Perguntas (yes/no):
Verbo to be + sujeito + verbo principal com "ing".
Exemplo:
- Am I being?
- Is he being?
