PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Gestão ambiental, confinamento bovino, desenvolvimento sustentável ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT IN CONTAINMENT OF BEEF CATTLE ABSTRACT: The world's population is becoming increasingly numerous and along with that population growth increases the need to produce more food. The biggest challenge is to increase production without leaving aside concern for the environment, being that the alternative to achieve the much acclaimed sustainable development. Present in Brazil since the time of colonization, the rearing bovine animals is becoming increasingly intense and technified aiming to try to meet the growing demand for food. Arising from this technification came the beef cattle feedlot, recent practice in the Brazilian reality. There are countless benefits of confinement, however the waste arising from such a system could have high pollutant, and its allocation and the attempt to reduce the production of these undesirable compounds a noble task. There are several techniques that can be employed for this purpose, such as changing dietary strategies, and the use of composting digesters, making the balance between production and degradation positive in respect to confinement.
