The two pairs of sentences present different aspects of translation: word to word translation, style adaptation, transposing, for the first one; equivalence, for the second. In the first example, almost all the whole material can be translated word to word, keeping the translation very close to the source text. But a few adaptations have been done: "too small" becomes pequena demais, and "long journey" - viagem longa. The second one corresponds to a translation unit at the level of the sentence. Thus, the whole sentence is replaced by a corresponding saying that assumes the same meaning or effect. This corresponds to Nida's dynamic equivalence, where the effect of the material counts and not necessarily morphologic of semantic translation, even if it looks like a word to word translation
