Neste exercício, tem-se a seguinte função:
\(\Longrightarrow f(x,y) = \left \{ \begin{matrix} {x^3 - xy^2 \over x^2 + y^2 } , & (x,y) \ne (0,0)\\ 0, & (x,y)=(0,0) \end{matrix} \right.\)
Portanto, vamos verificar a veracidade do seguinte limite:
\(\Longrightarrow \underset{(x,y) \to (0,0) } \lim \, {x^3 - xy^2 \over x^2 + y^2 }\)
Considerando que \(y\) se aproxima de zero através da reta \(y=0\), o resultado é:
\(\Longrightarrow \underset{(x,y) \to (0,0) } \lim \, {x^3 - xy^2 \over x^2 + y^2 } = \underset{x \to 0 \\ y=0} \lim \, {x^3 - xy^2 \over x^2 + y^2 }\)
\(=\underset{x \to 0 } \lim \, {x^3 - x \cdot 0^2 \over x^2 + 0^2 }\)
\(=\underset{x \to 0 } \lim \, x\)
\(\Longrightarrow \underset{(x,y) \to (0,0) } \lim \, {x^3 - xy^2 \over x^2 + y^2 } = 0\) \((I)\)
Considerando que \(y\) se aproxima de zero através da reta \(y=x\), o resultado é:
\(\Longrightarrow \underset{(x,y) \to (0,0) } \lim \, {x^3 - xy^2 \over x^2 + y^2 } = \underset{x \to 0 \\ y=x} \lim \, {x^3 - xy^2 \over x^2 + y^2 }\)
\(=\underset{x \to 0} \lim \, {x^3 - x\cdot x^2 \over x^2 +x^2 }\)
\(=\underset{x \to 0} \lim \, {x^3 - x^3 \over 2x^2}\)
\(=\underset{x \to 0} \lim \, {0 \over 2x^2}\)
\(=\underset{x \to 0} \lim \, 0\)
\(\Longrightarrow \underset{(x,y) \to (0,0) } \lim \, {x^3 - xy^2 \over x^2 + y^2 } = 0\) \((II)\)
Considerando que \(y\) se aproxima de zero através da reta \(y=2x\), o resultado é:
\(\Longrightarrow \underset{(x,y) \to (0,0) } \lim \, {x^3 - xy^2 \over x^2 + y^2 } = \underset{x \to 0 \\ y=2x} \lim \, {x^3 - xy^2 \over x^2 + y^2 }\)
\(=\underset{x \to 0} \lim \, {x^3 - x\cdot (2x)^2 \over x^2 +(2x)^2 }\)
\(=\underset{x \to 0} \lim \, {x^3 - 4x^3 \over x^2 +4x^2 }\)
\(=\underset{x \to 0} \lim \, {-3x^3 \over 5x^2 }\)
\(=\underset{x \to 0} \lim \, -{3 \over 5}x\)
\(=-{3 \over 5}\cdot 0\)
\(\Longrightarrow \underset{(x,y) \to (0,0) } \lim \, {x^3 - xy^2 \over x^2 + y^2 } = 0\) \((III)\)
As equações \((I)\), \((II)\) e \((III)\) mostram que o limite tende para o mesmo valor considerando caminhos diferentes. Portanto, a função \(f(x,y)\) é contínua no ponto \((0,0)\).
