Henri Lefebvre opens the work with questions related to the theory of knowledge. He conceptualizes knowledge as a fact, which is realized from the most immediate and simple practical life, through the knowledge of surrounding objects. Knowledge as a fact arises from the dialectical interaction between subject and object and presents three general characteristics: knowledge is practical, through experience human beings establish the first contact with objective reality; knowledge is social, as through the life of existence objective contacts are established that allow relationships between people and things; finally, knowledge has a historical character, as it results from the accumulation of ideas and thoughts developed by individuals, in the long duration of social history.
