CATTLE AS HERITAGE IN MAGUDE DISTRICT
 Because cattle raising is carried out from
generation to generation in a traditional
way without jeopardizing the functioning of
the ecosystem and its resources
 It is the source of income for more than
90% of the population
 Cattle are not seen as merchandise, but as
a family asset that is generally used for
ceremonies, lobolo, marriage, traditional
ceremonies.

THREATS TO LIVESTOCK, AGRICULTURE AND BIODIVERSITY
Due to the dry characteristics of the place, the population
has faced problems of lack of water for crops irrigation and
cattle watering as well as the lack of pasture for cattle.
This phenomenon also affects agricultural crops, putting
the population's food security as well as biodiversity at
risk.

STRATEGIES TO FACE THESE PROBLEMS
 Training sessions for communities on the production of hay bales in
the period of abundant pasture for later use in the dry season
 Establishment of drought resistant cattle breeds
 Diversification of income sources to reduce pressure on livestock in
the lean season
 Adopt varieties of crops which have drought resistance
 Produce crops of short cycle of development
 Build wells and tanks for water storage during the wet season
