	Conteúdo: Cognatos e Falsos Cognatos
Objetivo geral: Identificar palavras cognatas e falsas cognatas
Objetivos específicos: Levar o aluno a identificar palavras semelhantes e distintas quanto à escrita e significado em português e inglês; Desenvolver uma atividade de leitura; Apreender os sentidos globais envolvidos no uso da linguagem.
	Procedimentos de ensino
	Apresentar aos alunos o conceito de “cognatos” e seus significados. Em seguida, solicitar aos alunos que leiam 
um texto contendo palavras cognatas (anexo 1). Pedir aos alunos que grifem os vocábulos que entendem e que são parecidos com palavras da língua portuguesa. Permitir que os alunos se juntem em duplas para comparar os resultados. Solicitar aos alunos que criem uma lista com tais palavras.
Apresentar aos alunos o conceito de “falsos cognatos” e seus significados. Em seguida, solicitar aos alunos que leiam um texto contendo falsos cognatos (anexo 2). Pedir aos alunos que grifem os falsos cognatos no texto e, depois, façam a compreensão textual. Permitir que os alunos se juntem em duplas para comparar os resultados. Solicitar aos alunos que respondam algumas perguntas referentes ao texto.

	Procedimentos de avaliação
	- Os alunos serão avaliados oralmente, observando se foram capazes de compreender os efeitos de sentido no texto trabalhado.
- Os alunos serão avaliados em suas discussões em grupos e na compreensão do texto.
- Elaboração de uma lista com cognatos e falsos cognatos.

Anexo 1 - Cognatos
THE ACCIDENTAL CREATION OF A CURE
 A scientist was doing some research and trying to discover why some animals died or got sick while eating certain types of food. He analyzed different materials and their compositions. He also consulted other scientists so that he could draw his conclusions. He worked hard to resolve the problem.
He had no success in the initial stages of his journey. He tried, tried, but again he had no success. Then he decided to desist and abandon his dream.
But it was his destiny to revolutionize the concepts of science at the time, and two weeks later, when he least expected, the answer (or the cure) came to him while he was observing the reaction of a product in the water. He thought to himself, "I can't believe it! I must be dreaming!". Why didn't I think of this before?"
 Today hundreds of people around the world still make use of his creation and are grateful to this scientist that many consider a hero.

Anexo 2 – Falsos Cognatos
A DAY AT WORK
In the morning I attended a meeting between management and union representatives. The discussion was very comprehensive, covering topics like working hours, days off, retirement age, etc. Both sides were interested in an agreement and ready to compromise. The secretary recorded everything in the notes. 
Eventually, they decided to set a new meeting to sign the fi nal draft of the agreement. Back at the offi ce, a colleague of mine asked me if I had realized that the proposed agreement would be partially against the company policy not to accept workers that have already retired. I pretended to be really busy and late for an appointment, and left for the cafeteria. 
Actually, I didn't want to discuss the matter at that particular moment because there were some strangers in the office. After lunch I attended a lecture given by the mayor, who is an expert in tax legislation and has a graduate degree in political science. 
He said his government intends to assist welfare programs and senior citizens, raise funds to improve college education and build a public library, and establish tougher limits on vehicle emissions because he assumes this is what the people expect from the government.
